In honor of International Cat Day on August 8 (sorry dogs), we wanted to understand more about the social characteristics of these two camps of animal lovers. To answer these questions, we dug our claws into aggregate, de-identified data from a sample of about 160,000 people in the United States who shared photos of cats or dogs (or both) on Facebook.
Stereotypically, dogs are more social and easy-going, while cats are reserved, independent, and unpredictable. To blatantly oversimplify things, we’ll call them “cat people” or “dog people” for short.
